Beginning of the Semester
Civics and Economics Assesments
Test and Benchmark Test
The Civics and Economics curriculum is divided in to four major themes: our System of Government, our Legal System, our Political System, and our Economic System. Each one of these themes will have a benchmark test with some of the themes having smaller test along the way. The smaller test will count 35% of the student's grade, with the Benchmark test counting 40% of the student's grade. This is a total of 75% of the course grade coming from the student's performance on test.
The student is allowed to retake these test one time, given they complete all assignments during that unit and a remediation assignment geared to help the student better understand the material. |
Other forms of Assessment
Throughout each unit of study, students will be asked to perform several assignments that will help evaluate their understanding of the material. Each unit will begin with a study guide that will be completed in written paragraph form. These study guides will not only help prepare the students for the test, but also help with the writing that is necessary to become a successful student.
Obviously classwork/homework will also be an evaluation of student performance, and will be assigned to coincide with the questions on the study guide. Periodically students will be asked to write in class or at home a Free Response Question (FRQ) that will be graded. These are short essays that again help the students with their writing. These are generally geared towards the honors students, especially those who are going into the AP Government course second semester. There are tips above on how to write these FRQ's Several Project/Simulations will also be used as a measure of student performance. These are usually in class, but in the case of the honors classes, some will be completed at home. Finally, each unit will have at least one quiz that evaluates the students understanding of the material. These five forms of assessment will combine for the other 25% of the students grade. |
